The calm before the storm

The past few days have been unusually and thankfully quiet as we've rolled out multiple new changes to the yaplet client. Reviews have been good, but with all the great user feedback we've received, Matt & I feel yaplet can be even better. Even bigger.

Today, yaplet was described as a "meta-community". (Thanks go to GWEGGY for the inspiration.) Yaplet takes down barriers. It allows individuals to socially tap the sites/communities that fit them, rather than being shoehorned into a one-size-fits-all or predetermined community...

(It will probably take me a few more days to explore and refine all of the exciting implications. Feel free to comment on my pseudo-philosophical ramblings below, or just catch me the yaplet homepage.)

Anyway, Matt is re-writing the yaplet web server from scratch in his never ending pursuit of speed! (Can you tell that our internet connection just really sucks?) Hopefully, you guys won't mind the faster service either. ;)

We are striving to add the necessary final touches to yaplet before it starts to finally catch on in the good ol' USA.

Version update for 18 February

Today we will be upgrading yaplet with:
  • improved private messaging system
  • better top sites ranking
  • unicode support
There are still a lot of features to be on the look out for. Right now, I am working on:
  • more emoticons & ASCII art
  • better create-a-chat / wiki engine
  • optional find-a-friend feature
Matt is working on:
  • optional chat alerts (sound, flash)
  • more IRC functions
  • more meeting/channel features
We are also seriously considering an open API for yaplet, even though no one has asked for it. Since this would take a fair bit of effort, we'll probably only do it once people start to ask for it or once a critical mass starts using yaplet.

Matt's first post

We have a batch of updates coming tomorrow. Finally, we'll have a better private messaging system.

By popular demand...

Enough of our lovely visitors asked us to, so...

Voila! we have started a blog to document the progress of the growing yaplet project/community!

As always, Matt and I welcome your questions, comments & suggestions for making yaplet a better place!
